Bloodbath & Beyond [Mass Effect]

Mid-Mission Update - Ares Interplanetary A113
Elimination

[Target] Hanar dignitary
[Location] Zakera Ward / Citadel
[Objective] Eliminate target with minimal evidentiary ties to Ares

Upon being notified that the lien on BB&B’s operation had again been sold, the team was invited to visit Caleston, the headquarters of Ares Interplanetary, to meet with their new employer. There, they were informed that BB&B had been officially purchased by Ares and would be operating under their corporate banner, though the licensing of the BB&B trademark was still up for negotiation.

Malrin, asari CEO of Ares and connoisseur of ancient Earth memorabilia, personally welcomed them to the fold and gave them their first mission: the assassination of a hanar diplomat aboard the Citadel. They were given the name of a drell contact who would meet them in the Dark Star Lounge in Zakera Ward and assist them.

Unfortunately, the drell was double-crossing Ares—and them. He led the team to a nearby alley where they were ambushed by several of the traitor’s associates. After a tense battle, the team came out on top, capturing the traitor in the process.

Fugitive Recovery

[Target] Runaway volus researcher with stolen files
[Location] Noveria (Pax System / Horsehead Nebula) | Presrop (Klendagon / Century System / Hawking Eta)
[Objective] Recover the target, dead or alive, along with any research data in his possession

As the new holders of BB&B’s lien, Agronomics Ltd. sent the crew after Hervus Tohl, a volus researcher who had disappeared from their Noveria labs with several petabytes of confidential research data. Upon further investigation, the crew discovered that Tohl had falsified his flight plans and murdered his salarian accomplice, leaving weaponized creeper mines in the salarian’s apartment.

After a brief run-in with Noveria corporate security, the crew unearthed Tohl’s actual destination and set out after him. While in flight, a malicious data packet within Tohl’s files rendered the crew’s ship inoperable, forcing them to land on Presrop, Klendagon’s frozen moon.

Once on the surface, the crew found Tohl and his surviving crew easily enough, but they also ran into Galen Salvius, chief lieutenant of the Pulsars mercenary gang. After a tense but brief battle, they subdued Salvius and his men, with Copperfield blowing away most of the turian’s torso. Before he expired, however, he ordered his orbiting ship to “open fire.” Believing that their location was about to be bombarded from orbit, Vet worked quickly to sample the turian’s speech and countermand the order. While the Pulsar ship did cease fire, their actual target had been the crew’s ship, not them directly.

Now stranded within the Five Kiloparsec Ring, the crew attempted to take over the Pulsar ship in orbit. Although most of the crew put up little resistance, the bridge crew offered a larger challenge. Led by Carter Walcott, the brother of Copperfield’s previous CO, the bridge crew held off both Ashima and the sniper for several minutes, severely wounding the human in the process. Once the rest of the crew arrived, however, the battle was over quickly. With his krogan bodyguard and asari first mate taken out, Walcott fled the ship in an FTL-capable shuttle.

Once the crew was in control of the Pulsar ship, they returned to Noveria, where the CEO of Agronomics Ltd praised them for their work, while simultaneously “lamenting” the loss of their previous ship and promising that the insurance payout would more than compensate Agronomics Ltd for its expenditures on this mission.

[Outcome] Mission success. Target recovered alive, with data stores intact. Copperfield was gravely wounded during the operation, but it is believed he will survive with little or no lasting injuries. Although the crew’s original ship was destroyed, the recovered Pulsar ship—and its Thannix cannons—serves as a more-than-worthy replacement.

Hostage Recovery

[Target] Kidnapped krogan female, suspected fertile
[Location] Abandoned refinery on Rayingri (Gagarin System / Armstrong Nebula)
[Objective] Recover the target, unharmed
[Secondary Objective] Decimate the Blood Pack rebels

Upon landing, the crew set about preparations for their assault. Copperfield and Rusonius took elevated positions in the staging area, gathering information on the placement of the enemy forces. Vet set up technological countermeasures while nar Rannoch compromised the enemy comms. While Ashima attempted to infiltrate the refinery, Jorgal drew one squad of guards away from the building.

Once Ashima was in position and Jorgal had the attention of the Blood Pack guards, Copperfield and Rusonius opened fire, distracting the remaining guards from Ashima’s presence and neutralizing several targets. Vet attempted to assist Jorgal’s ruse with the use of a modified combat drone, but he was overzealous in gaining the guards’ attention. Before the Blood Pack agents could storm the group’s staging area, Jorgal stopped their advance with a well-placed biotic barrier, eventually locking the majority of the enemy forces—and himself—in stasis.

With the Blood Pack agents sufficiently distracted, Ashima entered the building and took custody of the kidnapped female. The leader of the splinter group opened fire on Jorgal, but only succeeded in detonating the pressurized pipeline in the area, scattering his forces. Copperfield neutralized him with a single shot, and while Vet set about overloading one of the vorcha’s flamers, Rusonius opened up on the remaining guards, eliminating them.

The two remaining Blood Pack agents acknowledged the team’s skill and coordination before retreating, and nar Rannoch provided them with the team’s contact information, should they ever require the services of Bloodbath & Beyond.

[Outcome] Mission success. Target recovered with minimal injuries, and the Blood Pack rebels are well below fighting strength. Possible bounty award for elimination of rebel leader.
